Semrush Review 2026: Is It Worth It?

Our verdict: Semrush is best suited to users who will actively use its competitive research and SEO workflow features—not someone who only needs occasional keyword volume checks.

Semrush Pricing in 2026: How Much Does It Cost?

Price is probably the biggest question for anyone considering Semrush.

Semrush’s current SEO Toolkit pricing lists three main tiers:

PlanMonthly PriceBest For
Pro$139.95/monthFreelancers, beginners, small businesses
Guru$249.95/monthGrowing agencies and SEO teams
Business$499.95/monthLarger agencies and businesses

The Pro plan supports five monitored websites, 500 tracked keywords and up to 100,000 crawled pages per month. Guru raises those limits and adds features including historical data, Topic Research and SEO Writing Assistant, while Business is designed around substantially larger SEO operations.

Semrush also currently advertises annual billing discounts, while its newer SEO + AI Search offerings combine traditional search optimization with AI-visibility functionality. Because Semrush’s packages are evolving, users should check the current pricing page before subscribing rather than relying on an old review.

Pricing verdict: powerful, but expensive for a new blogger or single small website.

Semrush Free Trial: Can You Try It Before Paying?

Yes. Semrush currently offers seven-day free access to its marketing toolkits, with the ability to cancel during the trial. The SEO Toolkit trial provides access to features such as keyword research, backlink analysis, technical auditing and SERP position tracking.

That trial period is particularly useful because Semrush can initially feel overwhelming. Instead of randomly opening every report, new users should test it against a real website: enter a domain, identify competing sites, research several target keywords, run a Site Audit and create a Position Tracking campaign.

That gives you a much better answer to “Is Semrush worth it?” than simply browsing its feature list.

For occasional keyword research, the paid subscription may still be excessive. But if those seven days replace several separate SEO tools in your workflow, the economics start looking more reasonable.

Semrush Keyword Research: One of Its Strongest Features

Keyword research remains one of the strongest reasons to use Semrush. Its Keyword Magic Tool turns a seed keyword into related keyword ideas and lets users filter results by metrics such as search volume and keyword difficulty, while also grouping keywords by topic and identifying questions and SERP features. Semrush currently says its keyword research database contains more than 28 billion keywords across 142 regional databases.

For practical SEO work, the real value isn’t simply getting a large keyword list. It is being able to move from a broad term into lower-competition opportunities, investigate the SERP, compare competitors and organize relevant queries into content clusters.

That makes Semrush particularly useful when building a new content strategy. Instead of choosing topics purely because they have search volume, you can evaluate difficulty, intent, competitors and existing rankings before committing resources to an article.

For a content-focused SEO, this is one of the features most likely to justify paying for Semrush.

Competitor Analysis: Where Semrush Saves the Most Research Time

Competitive research is arguably more valuable than looking at your own domain.

Semrush allows marketers to investigate competitors’ organic visibility, ranking keywords, backlinks and traffic opportunities. This makes it possible to start with a successful competitor and work backward: identify which pages attract search visibility, which queries they rank for and where your own site has content gaps. Semrush’s current platform also extends competitive analysis into AI visibility and mentions.

This is especially useful when entering a niche you do not fully understand. Rather than guessing what to publish, competitor data can reveal proven topic patterns.

There is an important limitation, though: third-party traffic and keyword figures should be treated as estimates rather than your site’s first-party analytics. Even Semrush notes that traffic estimates may be less precise when insufficient data exists for smaller sites.

Use competitor data for direction and comparison, not as an exact replacement for Google Search Console or analytics data.

Site Audit and Technical SEO

Semrush’s Site Audit is one of its most useful features for users managing larger websites. The crawler currently checks more than 140 technical and on-page SEO issues, including broken links, duplicate content, HTTPS implementation, crawlability and indexability. Audits can also be scheduled to run repeatedly.

That changes the workflow from “run an audit once” to ongoing technical monitoring.

For example, after publishing or migrating a large group of pages, an SEO can use Site Audit to identify new internal-link problems, crawl issues or technical errors and then prioritize them according to severity.

However, automated audit scores need context. A tool can identify a potential problem, but it cannot always determine whether fixing that issue will materially improve organic performance. Experienced SEOs should therefore treat Site Audit as a diagnostic system rather than blindly trying to achieve a perfect score.
